GLOBAL BRIDGE WORKSHOP
Professional development for educators with international students
Program Mission
The purpose of our program is to empower educators to enrich and expand the learning environment through the understanding of, appreciation for, and connection to the global perspectives of international students. We aim to illuminate and embrace the unique experiences and challenges faced by these students and turn them into learning assets for an enhanced interaction and global world view.
Why This Matters
While international students have a large impact on academic achievements and local economy, they are often overlooked in the classroom and have minimal social involvement. Many of them study abroad alone with no family or kinship for support. Recognizing that most educators in the US have not lived or studied abroad, raising awareness and understanding of international students’ journey will create a culture for increased exchanges and participation. International students are more likely to engage and succeed:
- With culturally competent educators who can be positive role models to offer guidance, encouragement, and support.
- When classroom/school culture recognizes and celebrates diverse backgrounds, customs, and ideologies.
- Where global perspectives and experiences are understood, valued, and incorporated into practice.
- With inclusive peers and a network of people who are open minded and curious about cultural differences.
